We had a bunch of folders with musical ideas named after China Miéville’s books / short stories and the content of Iron Council folder was approaching critical mass, and after Jeff Vicario joined, the album happened.

It was not an attempt to write a soundtrack to the novel Iron Council, it is more like sonic reflections on/glimpses at some characters, landscapes and storylines, but somehow the songs sequence ended up following the book narrative (in general).

The song Refused was written by Jeff before we started working on the album, but I thought it relates in an interesting way to the love story (Judah and Cutter) in the book so I asked Jeff if he would agree to have it as a part of the album and he was fine with it. In some way it became the center that holds the rest together. The single version of Refused is available on Jeff's Bandcamp page - jeffvicario.bandcamp.com

I don’t know where the mid-eastern themes came from (the book is considered “Western” among all other things) but it felt right.

We hope you enjoy the journey of the perpetual train.
